This entry is part 17 of 19 in the series Barcelona to Rome

After our first whirlwind day exploring Rome, we returned to the hotel to find out we were not going to be able to experience La Pergola, the Michelin Star restaurant at the Waldorf Astoria. After talking to the Concierge, we determined our second choice would be the hotel restaurant outside by the beautiful pool. Reservation made. Note to self: plan to make a reservation at La Pergola 6 months in advance of our next visit (https://romecavalieri.com/la-pergola/)!

We took the elevator to our fabulous and elegant room over-looking the local neighborhood. The Waldorf Astoria is set on a hill overlooking Rome. From the higher floor you can see the domes of Rome, including St. Peter’s Basilica.

We had to take a brief rest – all this sightseeing by car, by foot, and keeping up with our tour guide was exhausting.

Refreshed, dressed and down the elevator to dine al fresco by the pool. The moonlight was gorgeous and the way the pool is lit at the Waldorf, it looks just like the Mediterranean Sea.

Dinner at The Waldorf Astoria in Rome overlooking the pool

One of our 2 nights in Rome, we were both thinking that we just…… just didn’t have enough time. We were not going to see everything we wanted. And, the things we saw, did we really see them at all? We had another whirlwind day ahead….

We lingered at the table finishing our wine, coffee, and dessert while staring into the moonlight and the pool. Were we really in Rome?

The staff was cleaning up for the night and it was time to head upstairs to climb into the cozy looking bed and rest up for the last day of this amazing trip. No counting sheep tonight, maybe wine bottles, but we wouldn’t be counting too many.
